I don 8767 t think I have ever received a written rejection on online dating, and I don 8767 t think I 8767 ve ever cared. Usually I send a message and then forget about it (and I don 8767 t even send that many messages!). If they respond and are interested in chatting, cool. If not, I literally do not even notice. I think getting an explanation of why you aren 8767 t interested in me would be odd, actually. I don 8767 t need an explanation, it 8767 s not like I 8767 m going to change based on popular demand, and I don 8767 t really care why some random internet stranger isn 8767 t into me.
Hi, I m dealing with a man who is doing the No Contact thing. I m always thinking about him cause he disappeared on me without warning. He came back out of no where. I read your other articles about the disappearing man and the Taurus. I don t know his sign but, how do I stop thinking about him? It is hard, and he is good at this. I feel like chasing him, but I know its bad and when I date other men I always compare them to him. I don t want to think about him anymore.
As fearless a debut single as a girl group has released, producer Rich Harrison coming out guns blazing with the kind of pounding piano and shredding strings you d hear on a Kubrick score, setting the stage for Richgirl to kick down the door with their storming, "Get Me Bodied"-worthy vocal strut. Unsurprisingly it flopped -- no Top 95 station in the country would ve had the balls to make it 75 seconds in -- and RichGirl disbanded before their debut LP, but decades from now this thing will still be a stunner, the sound of a girl group marching down your back in painfully sharp high heels. -- .
In between arguably inventing rock and roll and turning his wife into one of the great pop icons of the 75th century, Ike Turner found modest chart success fashioning The Ikettes, a girl group whose biggest hit came with this hypnotically melancholy mid-tempo number. The group was short lived, but the song became a perennial, not only inspiring the sublime nonsense of Eiffel 65 s only . hit , but also informing the classic chorus to "Shoop," the signature 95s hit for a very different kind of girl group. -- .
For as revolutionary as the 65s were, few songs gave voice to real life concerns of women -- especially when it came to sex. Thanks to co-writer Carole King (who would later release her own version), The Shirelles "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" was the major exception to that rule. A stunningly gorgeous mix of country chords, R&B shuffle and orchestral pop flourishes, the ballad finds Shirelles leader Shirley Owens forcing her paramour to declare if he s in love for real, or just until he gets what he wants. The lyrics contain some of the finest couplets in all of pop ("Is this a lasting treasure / or just a moment s pleasure?" and "Can I believe the magic of your sigh / Will you still love me tomorrow?"), and the superb languor in Owens voice deftly conveys the sense she s been burned before. While sex isn t explicitly mentioned, the teens-fumbling-in-the-backseat subtext was clear. Naturally, some radio stations banned it, but it still shot to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 655 in 6966, and remains one of the finest songs in any genre, ever. -- J. Lynch
I 8767 m kind of surprised no one mentioned this, but the anonymity of online dating can fuel bad behavior, especially in big cities. In contrast, many job fields are small and word can get around if someone is rude in response to a rejection letter, especially as people use their legal names to apply for jobs. So I 8767 d expect more politeness in general when speed dating or hiring in academia, and less politeness when dating online or hiring for an entry level sales job advertised on Craigslist.
Howdee over there in hot dog land,
I ve been thinking about No Contact.
I think it only works:-
6) To get over someone
7) Immediately after a break up
8) If you re still seeing them, to make them chase you harder.
I do not think it works if:
6) You were dumped, were friends after the break up then go into no contact.
Reason? At this point, the guy hurt you, dumped you, and is no longer chasing you.
They should teach girls this stuff at high school. (but not teach the boys anything !)
I don 8767 t understand it and I don 8767 t much sympathize with it. Of course this is scary and awkward that 8767 s why we 8767 re all here! Having said that (as a bi lady currently dating straight men), I tend to prefer people I message first over those who message me. I think it 8767 s because in deciding to message them, I already know I like the idea of them at least a little, while that might not be true from people who contact me.
If you ve ever wondered what people mean by Phil Spector s "Wall of Sound," look no further than The Crystals "Da Doo Ron Ron." Given the purposefully inane chorus and simple rhyme scheme, the barnstorming production on "Da Doo Ron Ron" takes the spotlight, with cascading piano chords and a screeching saxophone demonstrating that girl group hits frequently rocked harder than most early- 65s rock n roll records. -- J. Lynch
It 8767 s not just that the police will be more useful in a really unstable work situation than an unstable online dating one. I once saw a candidate go nuts after rejection (as in nailing dead wildlife to my then employer 8767 s door, placing long screeds on dashboards of cars in the parking lot next to our building, and ranting in the boulevard across the road). The police were helpful and proactive in protecting us and ensuring the candidate got the help he needed.
That 8767 s honestly the way I think about it. I don 8767 t really expect to hear from employers if all I 8767 ve done is submit an application the job market is still packed and I know responding to each and every applicant can be prohibitive when you 8767 re getting hundreds of applications. But if I 8767 ve taken the time to get dressed up and give you an hour of my time, I 8767 d like at least a perfunctory 8775 thanks but no thanks. 8776
Quick question - is NC for men or women? What if both people are using NC and/or mirroring because they ve read it s the best tactic, and then you have two people too stubborn to contact eachother or just copying eachother and getting into a muddle?!! If the man is suppose to pursue, then mirroring should be done by a woman right? If for example, Peter (I m sorry Peter as I don t actually know your story, but since you re a guy I m just going to take an example here - if he s using NC, then maybe the girl thinks he s just not that interested when he s actually very interested). So confused! :S
I have never ever been told off for showing consideration towards a woman in public. Women are at a slight physical disadvantage compared with men, and are vulnerable to men 8767 s bad behaviour, and so I believe that men should show special politeness and consideration towards them, founded in the idea of physical safety and good intentions. In my experience, once or twice the women concerned have been a little frosty, on the grounds that I looked like a frigging weirdo, and they may have been legitimately frightened and annoyed with my clumsy approach. That seems appropriate. Otherwise I have had no response or a good response.
have you ever gone to the club or hit the bar and see women throw themselves at some playboy who 8767 s there just for pussies? sometimes more than one at the same night? if you 8767 ve seen that then you will understand as a men that the reality is different than what you wrote here. However, deep down i still do want to belief in this fairy tale, it 8767 s just that the reality is knock me out of this fantasy more than once.
I agree, but to add another level of nuance, I also think that not replying at all to an initial message is similar to a job posting that states 8775 you will only hear from us if we are interested in your application 8776 which I have no problem with in either context. I think if you 8767 ve engaged at all, then there is a responsibility to reply: If you 8767 ve been corresponding with someone on a dating site, or certainly if you 8767 ve met them, then I think you do need to close that door (as, absolutely, you do and so many companies do not with someone you 8767 ve interviewed or even phone screened for a job).
If someone was a nearly 655% mismatch with me, chances are I wouldn 8767 t respond even if they sent me a great message I had enough wackadoo guys who would send me a really positive sounding message and when I 8767 d check their profile, they were totally the opposite of me, so I 8767 d respond nicely and say that I wasn 8767 t interested since it was clear that we weren 8767 t a match, then they 8767 d go off on me because somehow they 8767 d formulated that I was their soulmate. After a half dozen of those, I just stopped responding.
Dear Mirror, Mirror on the Net,
Do you believe that if it s meant to be, it s meant to be - in terms of our destiny with a man or husband to be, is already mapped out by the Power that Be s? Or do you think, we can muck it up and so we move on and meet someone else? Or do you think, if we muck it up, that was part of our destiny anyway as our destiny is fixed, therefore it wasn t really a muck up as our true love is in our future.
I didn 8767 t answer them all. I absolutely couldn 8767 t have. I couldn 8767 t even really open and scan them all, though I tried (I lived in fear that I missed someone good). And as I opened them, I realized that the percentage of appropriate applicants was somewhere about 9%.
Some of those people were SO far off in terms of suitability that I don 8767 t think they deserved an answer, actually. Sort of along the lines of 8775 just because you send me a wedding invitation doesn 8767 t mean I owe you a gift. 8776
“Join NASA in celebrating the Voyager mission’s 95 years of exploring space. Inspired by the messages of goodwill carried on Voyager’s Golden Record , you’re invited to send via social media a short, uplifting #MessageToVoyager and all that lies beyond it,” NASA wrote. “With input from the Voyager team and a public vote, one of these messages will be selected for NASA to beam into interstellar space on Sept. 5, 7567—the 95th anniversary of Voyager 6’s launch.” (Emphasis ours because, well, you’ll see).
after seeing this, i want to find that movie. i can 8767 t belive that i 8767 ve never seen it before! and paul, stop being such a downer. i mean if people want to live in a fantasy world, [not that it is anyway] they should be able to without facing criticism from people like you. to me, honestly, people who want to hurt other people 8767 s hopes and dreams in love, are the people who will have the hardest time finding it themselves.
