Hello all,I recently started dating a Turkish girl ( I live in the United States and she is here working for the summer). I am extremely interested in her so far, it has only been about a week of us hanging out, but I think she is very interested in me as well. I just want to know some of the customs and best practices for dating a Turkish woman. The best advice I've seen has been to buy then things--gold, etc. I don't know if this is old-school or if this girl is just different, but it doesn't seem like she would want or need to be showered with gifts. I of course pay for the big expenses when we have gone out, but she always offers to pay and I have reluctantly allowed her to pay for desert and things like thing is that she is set to go back to Turkey in about 7 months, so I don't have much time. I haven't really thought about long-term, I just know that I like her a lot so far--if we're still dating in 7 months I will figure things out from for any help!Best,Thomas

I just wanted to say how much this forum helped me. I fell head over heels for a Turkish girl recently and I've read all of the comments here. I am soon flying to Istanbul to volunteer for 6 months at a handicap school for children, so that I will have a job while i am there teaching music. But as important as that is and fulfilling, I will be able to see her and she will be only 95 minutes away. If you need help getting there, I dont want you to have to wait longer than you need to. If I can help anyway, just ask friend.

I don't know how Turks are in Samsun. But from my experience, sometimes Turks seem to have a hard shell, but once they get to know you, they can become your best friends. If you are polite, courteous, and try, I think your future in-laws will see this and accept you for who you are. They probably have some persistent misconceptions of you as a foreigner. These will probably go away once they get to know you.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have asked her a little about her family, but do not want to make her too homesick. It seems like she does have a lot of independence, which I think is a really good hung out once again last night, and we're planning on doing the same tonight. I think I will continue to play it by ear and treat her with respect like I would any other woman. She said (in her broken English that I love) "for the next two months, you are mine." It will be tough when she must leave, but we're both trying to not think about it and just enjoy the time that we do again for the feedback.

Tere will be a huge different between a guy from Aegean, Black Sea, Mediterranean (Turk) regions (Who has a ethnic back ground from these regions) and a guy comes from Central Anatolia (Turk) , Southeastern (Arab or kurd), Eastern Anatolia (Arab or kurd). Difference is more than two different nations! There is a huge difference between Turkish and Kurdish traditions and cultures! Only food has similarity!

Yes, as I stated in my most recent post she has informed me that I must convert to Islam (although new interpretations of the text understand it to be okay for a muslim woman to marry a non-muslim man--but I realize that this is not what I'm dealing with, it's about how her family feels about everything). She is hesitant to tell her parents, mostly because it is very quickly for us to be this involved--but I know it is difficult for her to keep it to herself as she really wants to tell them, but doesn't feel like it's the right of what they say, we are planning on staying together. She does not think that she will have to go against them, but it would mean a lot for both of us to have their support.
I 8767 m currently dating a Türk for 9 months now , we met on some social app it was just a whimsical decision at first but then we decided to take it seriously.
I would like to know more details on the matter of a Christian dating a Muslim since my father is a Priest and he obviously would not like the thought of me being converted to another religion , so is it REALLY necessary for me to be converted if i were to marry him ?
Wolf looks like a dog, % DNA and look but complete different mind setup with different nature! Its independence, self-confidence, charm, protective instinct, intelligence and the hansom physical appearance gonna be much more tempting/seductive than a dog but it will not tolerate lack of self-confidence, imbalance etc. If you abuse him/her you will get a worst possible bite. Relation with a Wolf will require mutual respect, trust, sacrifice and knowledge about the nature of the wolf!
Watch your backs ladies there are three things you can expect from Turks to be conned, to get a disease and to be lied to o. I spent 75 years in a that community..they have the nerve to call American and British women whores..these guys are gigolo pigs and Love Rats! .Watch Out!!! Green Cards, Money and getting laid is their ONLY interest !! And before anyone calls me racist or sterotyping I know what I talking about, almost every male in my ex 8767 s home town came to America, lieing, using and abusing women for a Green Card when they have wives and children in Turkey, just to name a couple nasty things the y do. Watch your backs, they are lying , user , whores, don 8767 t say you weren 8767 t warned!!
While persisting past a no late in the game when you 8767 re close to sex is important, Turkish men ignore no 8767 s that come right upon the approach, and once in a set with a girl, they will not leave unless the girl pushes him away or ignores him completely. This can be painful to watch, and even worse is that you know the girl will be much less receptive if you approach her afterwards because the Turk put her in a more sour mood.
Becareful with them. That 8767 s all I can say about Turkish men. Not all are bad but generally are. The Turk love a good time and trying many different of woman before they get married. They also like hard working woman who can make money so in the end they can relays on you. Just to let you know Turkish men most of are lazy. They like to flirt more than making money. Some are a great lier and user. And they often getting bored very quickly. They loves woman. More woman they can catch the more power they will feel. I also have to warn you the Turks are suppose to marry Muslim. That 8767 s what family only accept.
When I first came to Turkey , I was given no warning about how typical Turkish men would act. I wondered if they would be anything like American men, the only type I knew, or if the culture would alter their personality completely. I had heard stories of getting lots of extra attention from men if you were naturally blonde or red-headed, but that seemed normal since those are very distinct foreign looks. Nonetheless, I had a rude awakening about the characteristics of typical Turkish men within the first month I lived in Turkey.
Well as for me, I met a guy few months ago through a social site. Everything went smooth sailing till we eventually met in person. He was so sweet, kind, caring and everything that could possibly make you head over heels for. After him going back to turkey, only did i know that he still talks to his ex. Things started to change after i confronted him about him still in contact with his ex. He didnt want me to interfere with their relation as it was already past. How can i not interfere when he still in contact with her? Cut the story short, things started to change after that. He wouldnt talk as much as he used to. I started to realize that he could have just seen me as a vacation lover.
It's great to hear from you again and glad to hear your romance is going well. We have a few male members who are married to Turkish woman who will I'm sure agree with you last you did move over to Turkey which city would you be thinking of living in. I don't know what you do for a living so don't know how easy it would be to get a good job. You will of course need to get a Work Permit which doesn't take long to get and is quite an easy thing to do. But I have to say that the hard part will be finding an employer who will apply for one for you. Maybe you can find an American Company that trades with Turkey and get an in house transfer. The other thing is if you don't speak Turkish that could be against you. Maybe your girlfriend could search out large International companies who you could can't comment on you continuing your education in Turkey as I don't really have the knowledge but there are other members who do, and hope they will advise you.
There 8767 s taking one for the team, and then there 8767 s the Turkish version of it. I have seen good looking Turkish men wing their brothers with horrendous women all night long. I 8767 ll talk to the ugly girl for 65 minutes or so to help my buddy out while a Turkish man stays with the grenade for the whole night and with such an energy that it appears he really does like her, even though it is a physical impossibility due to her monstrous appearance.
Thanks for the little bit more about me might help the suggestion process: I have a bachelor's degree in English (writing)--so I'm definitely thinking of getting a certificate so I can teach English in Turkey. My girlfriend is attending university in Izmir (ege), her family is from Samsun. I think Izmir is the city in question, I'm not sure what surrounding cities would be close enough for me to work in and commute have a good enough job right now as a retail sales manager, but I'm not using my degree in any way--and most importantly, I'm not with my girlfriend. I don't really have any reservations about moving to turkey aside from finding gainful employment.
Now, this type does not describe all Turkish men, because I have met some really great male friends while in Turkey. I 8767 m also not trying to create a stereotype about typical Turkish men. These are simply my experiences in my small city outside of Istanbul. Not all of these traits or experiences are only a result of Turkish-ness. Some of the stories that I have heard have been due to women beginning the flirtation themselves, and some men have a view of all Western women as being the same as women in movies.
I think it's more of what the girl and/or her family would expect (according to their beliefs & traditions), rather than what Islam demands.. after all, who is going to enforce it ? Thomas, if you're happy to go ahead with converting, there's nothing wrong with that. You will be expected to learn the basics of the religion so you'll know what's involved. We'd all be interested to know how you progress -- good luck !
Meral said in an earlier post 'While the family may have afforded their daughter a good deal of independence, when it comes to marriage, traditional values may prevail'. So it maybe that even if you convert to Islam they will still not accept you, even if they can see you are madly in love with their daughter. They may not want their daughter to marry a foreigner, they may not want her to live overseas.
I think what will happen is I will move to Turkey in about a years time and teach English, or something of the sort. At this time I can meet with her parents and learn more about her culture, etc. From there, I would love to live close to my friends and family, but I know Seda wants to do the long as we are together every thing will work out. Things just start to become a little complicated when we think about getting married and having a family (which we definitely want). We have discussed marriage and we both want it, but I am trying to decide when the best time to propose to her is. I think I should have her parents permission to even propose marriage, what does every one think?More images «American man dating a turkish woman»
